What is involved in becoming a “Friend” to Historic Westview Cemetery?

As a “Friend of Westview Cemetery” you are a donor, a supporter, and a champion of what is possible to be enjoyed at this historic landmark.

We celebrate our community of donors by calling them “friends” and creating opportunities for them to connect together. There is no additional required commitment other than your initial support. We do however invite you to be as involved as possible and grant all friends additional access to the property.

What will my gift/donation to Historic Westview Cemetery go towards?

There is a very direct plan to make the Gatehouse a whistlestop destination just off the Beltline as a meeting spot to enter the property of Westview Cemetery and learn about the great history and culture. This will also be a spot for APC to start their scheduled tours. After this, the project list delineates other specific preservation and improvement efforts.

How would corporate sponsorship look and what industry is a preferred partner?

Corporate Sponsorship succeeds when it is mutually beneficial to understanding a business’ goals. Our team welcomes corporate sponsors and based on your company’s vision, values, and investment our team can suggest multiple options of partnership.

Why does Friends of Historic Westview Cemetery exist and why are public and private equity needed rather than government funding?

Westview Cemetery is a very active cemetery with burials on a regular basis. But structures such as the Gatehouse are not part of the everyday activity of the cemetery. The interest and desire by groups such as APC to ensure the preservation of one of the oldest structures in the City and make available the rich history and culture in a respectful manner dictates an independent group to succeed. As a private preservation effort, government funding is not something Friends is seeking initially.

What is the difference between “Friends of Historic Westview Cemetery” and Westview Cemetery?

Friends of Historic Westview Cemetery, Inc. is a 501 ( c ) 3 organization dedicated to preserving aged aspects of the cemetery while providing access to the rich history and culture contained within the cemetery. The Westview Cemetery, Inc. is the day-to-day operator of the cemetery performing burials and maintaining the overall grounds.

What is the Friends of Historic Westview community primarily composed of?

Friends of Westview Cemetery attracts a wide variety of people. Whether a Friend of Westview chose to be involved because of a family member who is buried or plans to be buried at Westview Cemetery, a growing heart for history and preserving it, a reverence of the city of Atlanta, or an interest in building a unique network making a difference for years to come.

This community is wildly diverse in its motivations to give, their ages, demographics, and donor level.

Isn't the cemetery filled up?

Westview Cemetery has available space for many generations to come and has funerals every day.
